OutCenter Launches Millennial Initiative in 2017!
“LOVE. It’s the Skin You’re In.” will Focus on Group Support and Action
Benton Harbor, Michigan (January 25, 2017) – The OutCenter is launching a new pilot initiative for LGBTQ+ people and Allies, ages 18-35. “LOVE. It’s the Skin You’re In.” is a statement of self-love and a celebration of and support for all genders and sexualities. The program will meet weekly for up to 10 weeks, launching its inaugural meeting on Wednesday, February 1, 5:30-7 PM in the OutCenter Conference Room.
This support group will be facilitated by Brittany King (right) and Robert Sepulveda (below left). These two Master’s Degree candidates in psychology are supporters of the OutCenter’s mission and allies to and advocates for the LGBTQ+ community.
Their supervisor, Dr. Brad Hinman of Hinman Counseling Services, is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.
“Our current political climate has been an eye-opener for me and I realize that I need to do what I can to help people that are being pushed to the margins of society. It would be an honor to work with the LGBTQ+ community,” says Mr. Sepulveda.
This will be a unique opportunity for participants of all genders and sexualities to join together, find support and camaraderie, build community, as well as explore and develop projects that positively impact the LGBTQ+ community in Southwest Michigan.
“We are so very excited to have Brittany and Robert join the OutCenter to launch this pilot program. We’ve heard from quite a number of folks in this age group that really want to come together and we feel this will be a great opportunity for them to do so,” says Mary Jo Schnell, Executive Director of the OutCenter.
The mission of the OutCenter is to provide LGBTQ+ people and their families support and advocacy. We work to establish respect, understanding and nondiscrimination of LGBTQ+ people in Southwest Michigan. We fulfill that mission through direct services, as well as change-oriented initiatives.
