Thank You To The Lambda Car Club!

On July 16th, partners Mark Wasil and Joe Stramich, members of the local Lambda Car Club chapter, hosted an event at their home in Southwest Michigan to promote the OutCenter. They sold tickets with the intention of raising funds to support the OutCenter. By the end of the night, the group had raised $310, of which half would be given to the OutCenter and half to a lucky person in attendance. John Eggert was announced as the winner, but he generously decided to donate his winnings to the OutCenter as well, amounting to a total of $310 in donations for us! We at the OutCenter are very thankful for this gift and would like to express our gratitude to the local chapter of the Lambda Car Club for supporting us -- and therefore supporting the LGBTQ+ community in Southwest Michigan.

A Bittersweet Farewell And A Gracious Welcome: A Conversation With Leonard Williams, New Communications Intern

At the end of this month, our Communications Intern, Jasmine, from Scripps College, will have to head back to college for her last year in Southern California. We thank Jasmine from the bottoms of our hearts for her aid this summer, and we wish her the best in her studies and future career. We will surely miss her. But on the bright side, Jasmine found an intern to follow in her footsteps! We'd like to welcome Leonard Williams from Southwestern Michigan College to the OutCenter! We spoke to Leonard about his background and his choice to join us this fall.

The Teen Pride Blog: LGBT 101

by Chris Lacefield

Welcome to the Teen Pride blog. Over the course of the next few months, I hope to bring you along with me on a journey to understanding some of the challenges that face LGBTQ+ teens in the world today and specifically in Southwest Michigan. Hopefully we will also get to hear some of the voices of the teens who are active in our programs, and I hope that you get a clear picture of what the OutCenter and the Teen Pride program do for our community.

A Bittersweet Farewell And A Gracious Welcome: A Conversation With Andrea Khoury, New Counseling Intern

At the end of July, we sadly have to say goodbye to Vinisha Rana, our Counseling Intern from Andrews University. We thank Vinisha from the bottoms of our hearts for her aid these past few months, and we wish her the best in her career. We will surely miss her positive presence, and her leave is bittersweet. But on the bright side, we welcome Andrea Khoury, also from Andrews University, to the OutCenter! We spoke to Andrea about her background and how she'll fit in our organization.

Snyder Doesn't Show, But Says Yes to LGBT Law Reform

On Wednesday, June 29th, Governor Rick Snyder visited Southwest Michigan to meet with State representative Al Pscholka. We took advantage of this rare opportunity to talk with the Governor directly by inviting him to a sit-down discussion with OutCenter leaders.

Governor Snyder unforunately did not respond to the invitation, so we discussed these topics in a press conference later that day.
