The OutCenter continues to participate in statewide collaborations that educate legislators and voters about policies that are harmful to LGBT people and their families. The nation is in an uproar regarding the recently introduced a bill that would place gender based restrictions on transgender students. This bill, if passed, has the potential to bring about mental, emotional and physical harm to trans teens in this state. The OutCenter is pleased to provide a voice for those who go unheard.

POLESTAR Community Center

Mary Jo Schnell, executive director of the OutCenter, met with John Young, a founding member of a new initiative in Traverse City.

Aldo Leopold Day of Service

The OutCenter is partnering with Lake Michigan College’s (LMC) Departments of Communication and Sociology to help promote the participation of the LGBT+ community in the upcoming Aldo Leopold’s Day of Service.


The OutCenter is proud to say that we are at the table for the Advocates and Leaders for Police and Community Trust (ALPACT) for Southwest Michigan.

Teen Pride & Pops Ups: Being the Change You Want to See

The Teen Pride Gay-Straight Alliance meeting on February 20 teens discussed the importance of the #BlackLivesMatter movement and the unique issues that black LGBT+ people face. Queer prom will be on April 16 at The Oakroom at the Citadel in Benton Harbor, 6-9 PM. The newest addition to the OutCenter Program lineup is the Teen Pride Pop-Up initiative.
